When the Sun Prairie Public Library in Wisconsin decided they wanted to create a new teen space, they went right to the source and asked their teenage patrons what they wanted out of the area. Thrilled to be involved, the group of teens became invested in the project, coming to meetings, evaluating furniture, and even helping to choose color palettes.
It’s no surprise that the increasingly independent age group wanted a space that they could call their own — an inviting and comfortable space where they could connect with each other. Along with socializing, the teens also expressed that they wanted options for private spaces where they could work independently or settle in to read a book.
The Demco interiors experts transformed these goals into reality with a variety of seating and workspace options. On one end of the stacks, they created a highly flexible collaboration area with cafe-height folding Kite® tables and chairs. The mobile tables can easily be reconfigured to fit almost any size group, or can fold, nest, and roll aside to open the floor space for other activities. Additional seated-height tables ensure that students of all abilities can use the space. This area creates an ideal spot for teens to play the collaborative games they enjoy, such as Dungeons & Dragons.
A nearby alcove set up like a living room features armless lounge seating and stools, coffee tables, portable laptop tables, and comfy rugs that invite teens in to chat with friends, read, or set up a comfortable workstation. Teens never have to worry about running low on power with the convenience of several portable charging towers.
A wall-hugging laptop bar in the alcove and a computer bar nestled in the stacks give teens the opportunity to work on projects in a comfortable setting. Along the perimeter and between the stacks, a variety of seating options, including café-height tables, rolling stools, and comfortable chairs, couches, and ottomans invite them into the new teen space to read, relax, and repeat.
